Hi, I'm Martin Eberlein
I build techniques and automated systems that make software fundamentally more reliable and secure — specializing in Automated Debugging, Fuzzing, and Root-Cause Explanation.
I am a doctoral researcher in the Software Engineering group of Prof. Lars Grunske at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Previously, I collaborated closely with Prof. Andreas Zeller at the CISPA Helmholtz Center for Information Security in Saarbrücken. Soon, I will be joining Google full-time as a Security Software Engineer in California.
My work tackles a core challenge in modern software: when systems behave pathologically, why did they fail, and what exact inputs caused it? Through frameworks like AVICENNA and EvoGFuzz, I design active learning and grammar-guided fuzzing algorithms that isolate root causes automatically. In addition, I co-founded InputLab, securing €900k in grant funding from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) to automate testing for mission-critical data exchanges.
